A WEDDING DAY IN LAPLAND

A husband-and-wife
photo & film team.

A wedding in Rovaniemi can be an ice chapel ceremony with your closest people, a walk through a snowy forest, or a quiet celebration based around your accommodation. The photographs should make room for the people as well as the landscape.

We’re MærkFilms, a husband-and-wife photography and film team available for destination weddings and elopements in Finnish Lapland. One enquiry, one shared plan, and two people who already work together. You can book photography, film, or both.

The wedding below brings our approach into focus: an Arctic ceremony near Rovaniemi, time outside with a reindeer sleigh and a celebration that stayed close to its surroundings.

ICE CHAPEL · REINDEER SLEIGH · WINTER PORTRAITS

A ceremony in Sinettä.
A day in the snow.

This wedding took place at the ice hotel and glass igloo venue in Sinettä, near Rovaniemi. An ice chapel ceremony was followed by a reindeer sleigh ride and photographs in the winter landscape.

The film and photographs tell the same day in different ways: the setting, the people, the small moments between the ceremony and the celebration.

CHOOSE HOW YOUR DAY WILL FEEL

Wedding settings
around Rovaniemi.

Start with the ceremony and where you’re staying. A compact plan leaves more time for photographs and less time in transfers.

01 / SNOW & ICE

Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos.

An ice chapel ceremony with a venue base.

In Sinettä, near Rovaniemi, Arctic SnowHotel offers an Ice Chapel for weddings, with dining and warm spaces to continue the celebration. It is a practical starting point if you want the ceremony and much of the day in one place.

Confirm the current winter opening dates, ceremony arrangements and spaces directly with the venue before setting your schedule.

02 / OUTSIDE TOGETHER

Snowy forest portraits.

A short walk close to your base.

You do not need to fill the day with distant locations. A forest setting near your venue can give you quiet portraits and space to walk together, while keeping a warm room within reach.

We’ll choose the exact setting around the light, access and conditions on your date. Short outdoor sessions with warm breaks are easier to enjoy than one long stretch in the cold.

03 / PART OF THE CELEBRATION

A reindeer sleigh ride.

Time together, with photographs along the way.

In the featured wedding, the sleigh ride came after the ceremony. It gave the couple a different way to spend time outside, with photographs woven into the experience.

If you would like something similar, arrange it with your venue or activity operator and agree how photography fits the booking. Leave room in the day to get there, dress warmly and enjoy it.

MAKE THE MOST OF THE LIGHT

Planning winter wedding
photography in Rovaniemi.

Plan portraits around daylight.

Set aside the brightest part of your particular date for outdoor photographs. We’ll plan the ceremony, travel and warm breaks around it, rather than squeeze portraits into whatever time is left.

Keep warm between photographs.

Bring warm layers, suitable boots and a coat you actually want to wear. Let the venue or operator help with clothing rental if needed. We can photograph in short stretches and return inside between them.

Give the weather some room.

Keep an indoor option and a little space in the schedule. If conditions change, we can adjust when and where we photograph, while keeping the ceremony and the people at the centre of the plan.

Choose your season deliberately.

The snow-and-ice wedding shown here is a winter story. If you are considering a different season, we’ll discuss what you want to photograph and build a separate plan for your dates.

For current seasonal conditions and winter clothing advice, see Visit Rovaniemi’s practical travel information.

AN EXAMPLE, NOT A FIXED SCHEDULE

How a Rovaniemi
wedding day can flow.

  1. MORNING

    Getting ready, somewhere warm

Begin at your accommodation with time for preparations and the people with you. Keep the first transfer simple.

  2. DAYLIGHT

A first look and winter portraits

Meet before the ceremony if that suits you, or leave portraits until afterwards. We’ll protect a useful window of daylight for the photographs.

  3. CEREMONY

Personal vows in the Ice Chapel

Build the day around the ceremony time you have agreed with the venue. Leave a little time afterwards for congratulations and family photographs.

  4. AFTERWARDS

A sleigh ride or a short walk

Choose one experience you want to share. Warm breaks and a realistic pace matter more than a long list of stops.

  5. EVENING

Dinner and the people with you

Come back inside for dinner, speeches or a quiet meal together. Those moments are part of the story too.

BEFORE YOU WRITE

Questions about
your Rovaniemi wedding.

Do you offer photography and film in Rovaniemi?

Yes. Choose photography, film, or both. For combined coverage, we work as a husband-and-wife team, with one shared plan for the photographs and film.

Are you based in Rovaniemi?

We travel to Rovaniemi for destination weddings and elopements. The wedding featured on this page is from our own work in Finnish Lapland. Our agreed photography and film package includes travel.

Is travel included in the package price?

Yes. The agreed package price is final for your photography and film coverage, with our travel included and no additional travel fees.

How much coverage do we have?

Standard packages include 12 hours of coverage. We’ll agree the timings around the ceremony, daylight and the parts of your day you want documented. Tell us if your plans need a different arrangement.

Can we have photographs with the Northern Lights?

We can discuss it as part of your plans, but cannot promise an aurora display. Darkness, cloud cover and the conditions on the night all matter. Your wedding photographs will not depend on the lights appearing.

What if it is too cold for a long photo session?

We’ll keep the plan flexible, use warm breaks and choose manageable outdoor sessions. Have a warm indoor base nearby and bring proper winter layers and footwear.

Can we book you before choosing a venue?

Yes. Send your approximate dates and what you have in mind. We can discuss the photography and film before you have every detail settled. Venue and activity bookings are arranged separately.
