December in Iceland has a magic all of its own. With the shortest days of the year and only a few hours of daylight, everything feels slower, quieter, and more intimate. It’s this unique atmosphere that makes winter elopements so incredibly special.
GETTING READY AT BLUE VIEW CABINS
The day began at Blue View Cabins, surrounded by the peaceful Icelandic nature. In December, when daylight is very limited, the preparations started while it was still dark. The soft indoor light, slow morning moments, and calm pace created a very intimate beginning of the day — perfect for capturing genuine emotions, whether in photographs or on video.
At 11:00 a.m., exactly at sunrise, Skylar and Adam met for their first look. The sun slowly rose above the horizon, gently flooding the landscape with light and revealing their very first moment together.
VOWS IN THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK
After that, we headed to Thingvellir National Park — one of the most beautiful and at the same time most significant places in Iceland. Surrounded by the vast winter landscape and sites rich in history, Skylar and Adam exchanged their vows. The moment was so personal and powerful that it felt timeless and unforgettable.
After the ceremony, we took a walk around Thingvellir and captured a few portraits. The cold winter air, dramatic scenery, and soft December light created the perfect conditions for an authentic documentation of the day.
ENDING THE DAY AT THORUFOSS WATERFALL
We ended the day at Thorufoss waterfall, where the sound of flowing water and the wild Icelandic nature created a beautiful and emotional finale. It was a calm yet powerful closing to a day full of emotions — perfectly capturing what an Iceland elopement truly means: nature, connection, and meaningful moments.
A winter elopement in Iceland may offer fewer hours of daylight, but it gives something truly special in return: intimacy, atmosphere, and memories shaped by light, landscape, and the quiet beauty of winter.
